Ranked: The Best Web Hosts For Malaysian Sites

5/16/2018

1.SiteGround

SiteGround is our number one choice for its combination of speed and price. At 57 ms, it’s the fastest host in the Malaysian region (especially if you choose to locate the server in Singapore.)

Better yet, you won’t sacrifice speed across the rest of the world. Siteground gets an A rating across the rest of the world. In other words, it’s super fast in Malaysia, and it’s fast everywhere else too!

You can accelerate the worldwide speed even further by enabling the SiteGround’s free CDN function. Powered by Cloudflare, this stores your website locally on servers around the world. So no matter where your audience is, they always get served from the fastest location.

SiteGround is also affordable. At RM213 , it’s (almost) the cheapest host on the list. And it comes with a 30-day money back guarantee. Not only that, but SiteGround is a global web host that powers more than 500,000 of websites. You’re in good hands. You get daily backups too so you won’t lose all your hard work. FYI, we host this website Bitcatcha.com on SiteGround’s server!

Downsides:
  • Relatively high renewal price for the following year’s contract
https://www.siteground.com

Inmotion Hosting

If you’re aiming for a global audience, this is one of the fastest hosts out there. It scores A+ across the world. Only one host on this list is faster (HostGator Cloud – which is twice as expensive).

At 199 ms in Asia, it’s not the quickest host for Malaysian audiences, but it’s still within Google’s 200 msguideline.

It comes with unlimited storage and bandwidth, so you’ll never end up paying for more resources. It also guarantees 99.9% uptime and backs up your data every day.

Their customer support is top notch too. It received an independent A+ rating for their 24/7 phone support.

Downsides:

  • Slightly slower response times in Asia compared to some hosts.
https://www.inmotionhosting.com/

Exabytes

Exabytes is our highest rated local Malaysian host. Based in the Malaysia region, it scores highly for local speed. It’s ideal if you want a fast and affordable web host for an Asian audience.

It boasts a 99.5% uptime, which isn’t as high as we typically recommend, but it’s still respectable.

Exabytes comes optimised for WordPress and features a one-click install, making it easy for newcomers.

Downsides:

  • Uptime guarantee is lower than our benchmark of 99.8%.
  • Not as fast globally.
https://www.exabytes.my/

 ServerFreak

ServerFreak is our second local Malaysia web host on the list. It’s only a fraction slower than Exabytes in the Malaysia region, and it scores a B across the world.

ServerFreak guarantees 99% uptime. Again, this is lower than our benchmark, but won’t cause too much interruption. While ServerFreak is a little more expensive than Exabytes, you do get a 30-day money back guarantee, which is handy.

Downsides:

  • Uptime guarantee is lower than our benchmark 99.8%.
  • Slower in the rest of the world than most larger hosts.
https://www.web-hosting.net.my/

HostGator Cloud

HostGator Cloud is the single fastest web host on our list. Across the world, it scores an A+ rating and the average response time is better than all others.

However, it’s also the most expensive host on our list.

You do get a lot for your money. Super speed, unlimited storage and bandwidth, and unmatched reliability.

As the name suggests, HostGator Cloud uses cloud technology. It’s naturally more reliable because you’re sharing the load across multiple servers. It’s scalable too. If your site gets bigger, the host naturally expands to give you more.

Downsides:

  • Cost – it’s the most expensive web host on the list.
https://www.hostgator.com/

Shinjiru

Shinjiru is a solid local Malaysian web host. It comes with generous storage and bandwidth, as well as decent speeds in the Asian region and worldwide.

But Shinjiru’s unique selling point is its privacy and confidentiality. In fact, you can set up your web host anonymously to give you an extra layer of security. You can even pay using Bitcoin.

Downsides:

  • Not as fast in Malaysia as other local hosts.

Android App Data & Cache – How to Manage Them

5/8/2018

What is App Cache?

Let’s start with app cache as it is a less drastic option. Apps that depend on a stable internet connection usually download data to work properly. The data may include pictures, videos, audio files, fonts, documents, scripts and other data that makes the app work. This data is saved as cache so it could be reused when you access that app again.
Thanks to the cache, you don’t have to download data every time and won’t have to wait for it to be downloaded either. You are saving on internet data and the app will also load content fast (or instantly).
To put it simply, all the passive data that your phone apps download are saved in the cache to reuse again. This is one of the reasons why apps that don’t depend on internet data don’t have cached data.

Why should you not clear app cache?

App cache can take hundreds of MBs of space on your phone, so it may seem enticing to delete the cached data to free some space. However, as I told above, this cache is used to speed up the app and remove the need to download and update data every time you access the app.
If you will clear the cache, the app will seem a little sluggish when you will launch it and some of the data may take a second or two to open up as it downloads again. Performance decrease and the data that will be downloaded completely depends on how much the app was depending on the cached resource. Some apps depend less, some depend more.
To give you an example, an instant messaging app like Facebook Messenger depends less on the cache, so deleting its cache will only slow it down a bit. And maybe the profile picture or previously accessed data may lag before opening; such as messages.
On the other hand, if you play a game that depends on cached data to work properly (Monster Legends is a good example), then you will see a significant decrease in performance after deleting cache.
The whole interface and newly unlocked content will be downloaded again, so that’s hundreds of MBs of data that needs to be downloaded again to play the game properly.
Many people have a habit of deleting cache every day or they use a performance booster app that deletes all the cache automatically after a specific time. Frequently deleting cache will definitely affect the performance of apps in your phone.

When should you clear App Cache?

Deleting app cache for no particular reason is bad for app performance, but there are some times when it is okay to delete cache, and sometimes it’s mandatory. Below are some common situations where you can delete cached data:
  • If you have less space in your phone and you need to add more data, you can simply delete the cache to gain back space. The cache will build-up again, but at least you will be able to add more data for the time.
  • Sometimes too much cache can also slow down the phone by taking too much space or forcing the phone to process more data than needed when you use an app. Deleting cache may help speed up your phone. However, only try this when you have too much cache (at least in GBs), and your phone is slow.
  • Some apps may also not work properly due to corrupted or outdated cache. If an app is acting up, like slowing down, glitching or simply not working at all, then delete its cache and try using again.

What is App Data?

When you start using an app, you will log into it, customize its settings, download additional content or features and do other things to personalize the app. All this data is App data. To put it simply, everything you manually configure in the app or ask the app to download comes under App data.
Usually, app data is of only a few MBs containing basic information, but it can become very large if an app depends on downloading data. A good example of such an app would be YouTube. YouTube’s watch offline video feature downloads videos in your phone’s memory to watch without internet.
These videos are saved as App Data for YouTube and can take GBs of space if you download lots of videos. Similarly, video games have bigger app data due to the amount of information they save.

Why should you not clear App Data?

Now that you know what is app data, I am pretty sure you will not dare to touch it. Deleting app data will delete all the data inside the app or game, including your attached account information, configurations, your progress in a game and any other data you directly depend on.
If the app data wasn’t backed up in the cloud, either by you or the app creators; then all your data will be lost forever. In simple words, Clear App Data button is a factory reset button for apps that brings back the app to the state it was when you first installed it.

When should you clear App Data?

Even though it is a nuclear option for cleaning data, but sometimes it can be handy. Below are some situations where cleaning app data may help:
  • If you want to start over in a video game, then simply clearing app data will get you started. Although make sure there is no cloud backup to restore from.
  • Corrupted or outdated app data can make apps unstable. If deleting cache didn’t help, try to delete app data to fix a rogue app. Furthermore, if someone (like app developer) recommended you to reinstall the app to fix issues, then simply deleting app data may help as well.
  • Sometimes deleting downloaded app data from inside the app can be a little difficult (or slow), YouTube offline videos is a good example here as well. In that case, you can also tap on the Clear App Data button to immediately delete all the data. Although, do keep in mind that this will also delete all your prior configurations.

Difference between App Data and Cache

Long story short, app data is the important data that can break the app if deleted, and the cache is the helpful data that is handy to have but can be deleted without losing anything important.
Deleting cache will only delete data that is used for better performance of the app. On the other hand, deleting app data will delete all the data inside the app, including cache.

How to delete app data and cache?

Now that you know when to delete app data and cache and when not, let’s see how you can actually delete this data using multiple methods:

Delete cache and data of individual apps

If you want to clear app data or cache for a specific app, then you can do so from its settings. Go to your phone’s Settings and tap on Apps. Here you will see all your apps listed. Just look for your desired app and tap on it to open its settings. You should see both options to clear cache and app data.
Tap on Cache to clear all the cache or tap on Clear App Data and then confirm the prompt to clear its data.

Tap on Cache to clear all the cache or tap on Clear App Data and then confirm the prompt to clear its data.
You might notice here that clearing cache doesn’t require any confirmation and clearing App data requires a second confirmation. This clearly shows that cache doesn’t affect the app too much, but App data is very important and requires proper permission to be deleted.

Delete all the Cache
You can also delete cache of all the apps with a single tap. It’s a good option when you are looking to free up space and don’t want to visit settings page of each app. Go to your phone Settings and tap on Storage. Here you will see the option of Clear Cache. Tap on it and confirm the prompt to clear the cache of apps.

Use a third-party app to clear cache

Usually, I don’t recommend using a third-party app to clear cache, but if you want more control then it could be a good option. Clean Cache is a good free app for this purpose that offers good control. It will let you see the cache of all the apps in one place, and you can easily delete cache of individual apps with a tap.
Clear Cache will make it easier to clean cache of individual apps, but don’t use it to clean all the cache on daily basis. I have already told you the importance of cache.

Wrapping up

There are very rare situations where you may need to delete app data, but you may have to frequently delete cache for different purposes. In the end, both of these data are not bad for your Android phone. Although you should know when it is handy to delete them to use your phone effectively. If you have any questions, let me know in the comments.

10 Steps to Launch a Successful Social Media Marketing Campaign

5/8/2018

1. Research Your Competitors

Researching your competition is a crucial step that a lot of marketers forget in social media marketing, but you don't want to miss this one. It can tell you what's working for your competition. You can then use that valuable insight to inform and improve your own campaigns.

You can, for example, see how the competition covers certain types of topics and what types of content they create. Do they share tutorials or do a lot of Q&As? What posts get the most results? You can also see what times they post, how regularly they're uploading content, and even what tone they're using. Are they selling aggressively or giving more of a subtle nudge?

Uncovering your competitors' social media strategies will allow you to create an even stronger one for your brand, giving you the edge. You can do your research manually, or you can use competitor research tools to compile the data for you.

2. Craft Your Strategy

Before you do anything else, create a solid strategy for your campaigns. Strategy can become complex, but start by breaking it down to the basics.
  • First, choose your goal for the campaign. For example, do you want to build an online community, drive more leads to your site, or help promote your blog?
  • Next, choose which metrics you'll monitor. Say you want to drive leads to your site; then you might track the number of users contacting you directly or clicking links that are promoting lead magnets.
  • Then, craft your messaging and content around the goal in a way that your audience will likely find appealing.

3. Promote One Message With Different Forms of Content

You should have finalized the messaging you want to use in the previous step. Now, in this stage, you'll use different formats to deliver that message, such as infographics, videos, and blog posts, to see what works best.
You can, for example, promote one product with each of these different media types. See what your audience responds to, and keep using diverse formats while you favor those that come out on top. Doing so will keep your channels interesting and your users engaged.

4. Strike A Balance Between Promotional and Non-Promotional Content

That balance is particularly important because of Facebook's new algorithm. If you share only promotional content on social media, people will become uninterested and stop following you. If, however, you share only nonpromotional content on social media, you won't get the kind of results you're hoping for.
So add content to your feed from external sources (content not written by you). For example, find a reputable media source in your industry and repost its top-performing content. That way, your audiences get to see content they might otherwise have missed, and you can build relationships with fellow experts in your industry, too.

5. Publish Unique, Trending Content

This one sounds a bit like an oxymoron (how can content be both trending and unique?), but it's a great strategy to use. Find trending topics or strategies and put your own unique spin on them. If many marketers are writing about how Facebook Zero is going to damage reach, for example, you should be the one who writes about how it will help businesses that make the effort to better connect with their clients.

6. Use Scheduling Software to Optimize Your Routine

Trying to create social posts on the fly isn't going to cut it. Instead, optimize your campaigns and your routine by using scheduling software to streamline the process.
You can create a social media calendar in advance, scheduling posts to be published at specific times and dates. This approach significantly reduces the amount of time you'll spend bouncing around on different platforms to upload content, giving you more time to focus on creating great content and engaging with users.

7. Use Social Listening Tools and Engage With Your Audience

Social listening tools are exceptionally powerful. They allow you to see what people are saying aboutyour brand, which may be very different from what they're saying to your brand.
Use social listening tools to monitor the impact of your campaigns and see what people are talking about. You should also specifically check what questions people have about your product, brand, and industry; such questions offer valuable ideas for content.

8. Create a Unique Hashtag for Each Campaign

Hashtags are powerful entities on Instagram and Twitter. They can help drive engagement, and just as important, they can help you track the results of your campaigns.
By creating a unique, branded hashtag for your brand and specific campaigns, you can more easily track engagement and user-generated content even if users don't remember to tag your brand directly in their posts.
Branded hashtags shouldn't replace the more common hashtags that your audience is using. To maximize reach and trackability, use both kinds in each post.

9. Go Live

Livestreaming is a big trend in social media, and if you aren't taking advantage of it, you're missing a prime opportunity. Go live on Facebook or Instagram on topics related to your social campaigns. To increase engagement, host Q&A sessions and answer customer questions asked either beforehand or in the live comments.
The best part? Once the broadcast is over, you can save it and share it as a regular video to your platforms, giving you native video content.

10. Analyze Your Performance

Just because your campaigns may be underway or over doesn't mean the work is done. Regularly analyze the success of your campaign as it progresses, and evaluate it closely once it's over. You can get valuable insight into what worked well and what didn't.
That analysis also gives you the chance to identify the top content from the campaign. You can then reschedule or repurpose it to run again soon, increasing your results and keeping the momentum going.

How to Find (and Win) Sponsors for Your Event

5/7/2018

1. Build a list of ideal sponsors

Event sponsors want to reach people who are likely to become loyal customers and strong brand advocates. Use your knowledge of attendees to discover the brands and products they love, then match their interests with potential sponsors. Here’s how to find the right fit.

Find all potential sponsors for your eventTo become customers, your attendees have to want the product or service your sponsors sell. Think about the needs of your attendees, list the companies who can meet those needs, and you’ll have a broad range of potential sponsors.
This doesn’t mean you have to stick to the obvious companies. “Let’s say, for example, your event gathers heart surgeons together for an annual summit,” says Chris Baylis, the president and CEO of The Sponsorship Collective “Pharmaceutical companies and insurance providers should be on your list. But what about car dealers? Or mortgage banks?”

Locate the decision maker
Once you’ve listed the companies who could sponsor your event, contact them to ask who makes sponsorship decisions. It may be a marketing or PR manager, a dedicated sponsorship manager, or the owner of the company. Save this information for later but don’t reach out quite yet — you have a little more to do before making your pitch!

Build your list
Organize your list of prospects into a spreadsheet. Include the following columns to help you track sponsor outreach efforts:
  • Company
  • Decision Maker
  • Contact Made
  • Meetings Booked
  • Proposal Submitted
  • Follow-up Meeting
  • Outcome

2. Use data to prove sponsorship value

Companies want a return on their investment. Leverage event data to show who they could reach, how many people they could reach, and the revenue they could generate by sponsoring your event. Be sure to include:
  • Ticket/registration sales: Use attendance records to show how many people a sponsor could reach and how much your event has grown each year.
  • Attendee demographics: Sponsors typically want to know their audience’s age, gender, and location, but you can go even deeper with education level, job title, and income to show purchasing power.
  • Non-attendee demographics: Gather information about vendors and media at your event, especially which audiences they appeal to.
  • Social media actions: Track when, where, and how often your event is mentioned on a website, blog, social network, or news site.

 3.Connect with event sponsors

You’ve done the background work to find event sponsors, now it’s time to use it. As you begin to reach out to sponsors, follow these steps to put your best foot forward.

Draft an elevator pitch:
Write two to three lines about the type of event you’re organizing, the value to a potential sponsor, and a request for a short meeting. Practice delivering this pitch if you meet a prospect in person.

Connect with prospects:
As you approach potential sponsors, your goal is to get a meeting — not close a deal immediately. Connect with sponsors by attending events, interacting on social media, reaching out on LinkedIn, or sending emails.

Follow up kindly:
Decision makers are busy, so it’s not a “no” if you haven’t heard back. Show respect for their time by keeping it brief and to the point. Reiterate your value statement and ask to meet.

Meet and listen:
Bring your data, but don’t overwhelm by presenting everything. Instead, ask sponsors how they measure success and cherry-pick the information that’s relevant to them. Most importantly, take notes about what they want to customize your proposal.

4. Design your event to attract sponsors

Once a sponsor is interested, it’s time to craft a sponsorship package that reflects both the sponsor and your event’s brands. Work together as you do the following.
Customize your proposal: Sponsorship is a partnership between your event and your sponsors. Use what you’ve learned about their objectives to show how your event can help achieve their goals and justify the spend.

Get them excited:
Create an exciting event experience with an experiential marketing campaign. At BottleRock Napa Valley, wineries build out and host areas with hardwood floors, chandeliers, and white leather couches in which their patrons can sit back and sip wines.

“Our winery sponsors really help turn our GA space into what I would consider a VIP experience,” says Jason Scoggins, who manages sponsorships at BottleRock. “Winery sponsors are the perfect fit in terms of our brand and our experience.”

5. Build a long-term relationship

Satisfy the needs of your sponsors so they come back to build exciting experiences attendees love. Use this list to strengthen your relationship with sponsors.
  • Once a proposal has been accepted, make a checklist so that you keep the promises that have been made.
  • Keep your sponsors informed and involved leading up to the event.
  • Stay flexible. If a small adjustment to plans can benefit your sponsor without cost to you, make it with a smile.
  • Be a generous host. If you can extend VIP amenities or other positive experiences to sponsor employees, do it.
  • Share data about the results of sponsoring your event (impressions gained, brand mentions, sales, and leads generated).
With thoughtful research and coordination, you can find event sponsors and keep them coming back for more.
